Go ahead, kick off those dress shoes, drag out the cross-trainers, grab the dog, and head out to the street because we’re going on a walk. One of the benefits of living downtown is the wealth of things to see and do within walking distance of your luxury apartment home at First Place Apartments. Within a mile there are so many things that you may miss during your week commute; get outside and explore what downtown Dayton has to offer.
West 1st Street
Starting out, let’s turn right and head down West 1st Street. The Westminster Presbyterian Church, on the right, has two social groups that meet regularly in addition to providing religious services. A bridge group meets for social gatherings and always welcomes new faces (and beginners). The Church also hosts a camping group.
Continuing down West 1st Street at the crossroads with North Ludlow Street is the YMCA of Greater Dayton. The location offers anything from group classes and personal training to biometric screenings and CPR classes. Don’t miss the Agnes All Natural Grill at this location. This fun little join focuses on dishes without processed foods, msg, or high fructose corn syrup.
North Main Street
Walking up a bit further and you’ll smell the deliciousness before you see it. Turn left onto North Main Street and you’ll find the Flying Pizza’s downtown location, which stays hopping busy due to their fresh ingredients and hand-tossed crust. Located just next door you’ll find the quaint Strings Attached – A fine yarn shop. This little venue offers classes for all levels of knitters and crocheters—a great hobby for apartment life! Stopping down to the next shop you’ll find Vessels Dayton, a exquisite pottery shop. The enchanting pottery created on site would make a great gift for the hard to shop for out-of-town relative. You’ll also find a Link Dayton Bike Share station at this location. This is a great way to zip around downtown.
Heading up the street on the corner with Monument Avenue you’ll see The Wine Gallery. The atmosphere in this establishment is perfect for a relaxing wine tasting or to grab a bite to eat on date night. Turning right and walking along E. Monument Avenue you will walk parallel with the Great Miami River Recreational Trail. Just up the road is RiverScape Metropark, where you can rent a bike or attend one of the numerous free entertainment events scheduled for this summer.
Hang a right and take Jefferson Street back south, then turn right again on E. 2nd Street. Walking along E. 2nd Street you’ll pass The Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, Downtown Dayton’s premier performing arts venue. Take W. 2nd Street to Perry Street and you’re almost back. Once you’ve reached W. 1st Street turn left and you’re set for home. There is so much to see and experience within a mile walk from First Place Apartments, and we’re glad we’re the home you come back to.
