First Place Apartment’s Fitness Center Cardio Equipment
Located on the main floor, the Fitness Center at First Place is fully equipped to meet your fitness needs. If you’re just starting out on your fitness journey, however, it may be a daunting task to figure out how to get the maximum benefit from the equipment. To burn the most fat, you should stick in the low to moderate end of your Max Heart Rate. Try starting out with a very low amount of cardio. If you can’t do more than 5 minutes, that’s fine; build on that and add on 5 minutes every week until you reach 45 minutes.
First Place’s Fitness Center hosts a stair stepping machine, which works out your lower body. If trimmer thighs and glutes is what you’re after then the stair stepper is your machine.
For those with knee trouble, First Place’s Fitness Center also has two fitness bikes and two elliptical machines. Both of these will allow you to get a heart-pumping cardio workout, while being low-impact on your joints.
Have you ever worked out on a rebounder, a smaller fitness trampoline? Bouncing on the rebounder burns calories, strengthens legs and core muscles, and is lower impact than other cardio options such as running. If knee trouble is preventing you from attempting other cardio options, try doing 30 minutes on First Place’s rebounder.
The Fitness Center also has a rowing machine. Rowing machines are great for cardio and toning.
First Place Apartments Treadmills
Are you training for the Air Force Marathon? It’s been a rainy summer, so if you are you may be thankful for the two treadmills in our fitness room. Treadmill running isn’t only for necessity; it can be a good training tool for your outside races as well by setting your speed, time, and incline to meet your training needs. A good way to utilize the treadmill when training for a much longer run is running high speed intervals on the treadmill, mixed with slower jogging.
Toning and Weight Lifting Options at First Place
A good fitness routine has a mixture of cardio and toning. First Place’s Fitness Center offers a weight machine with multiple stations and free weights. The weight machine’s stations work out different muscle groups; instructions for the exercises are located on the machine. Try doing two sets of 15 repetitions (reps) on each station.
Free weights are often intimidating to new gym users, but they shouldn’t be. To select the correct weight for you, find a weight that is easy to use for the first 15 reps, then gets harder as you finish the second. Your ideal weight should be one that pushes you to safely finish your last 15 reps. If you’re breezing through both 15 sets, you need to examine your form to make sure you’re doing the full extension or increase your weight. To select free weight exercises, think about your end goal and what part of your body you want to tone, and then select the exercise that best works that area.
Want something different for your free weight exercises? Try working out with the medicine ball. It’s an excellent way to mix up your standard routine.
Water Fitness at First Place
Your fitness endeavors don’t have to be limited to the Fitness Center. Take a dip in the pool and try some water exercises. Working out in a pool is very low impact on your joints, which is great for beginners or if you’re nursing an injury.
